GIS Based Mapping for Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust
(JNPT) using High Resolution Satellite Data
Introduction
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) an Autonomous Body under Ministry of
Shipping Government of India had proposed to create the Large-Scale
Database by using a very High-Resolution Satellite Data for an area under its
jurisdiction. The study is aimed at generating a geo-spatial data of detailed
urban land use land cover data showing all the details of existing structures
on the sites with docks, container yards, roads, jetties, piers, railway tracks,
oil pipelines, open spaces, slums, etc. and other site features duly
superimposed on city cadastral data of Collector Navi Mumbai. Under this
project JNPT intends to generate the geo-spatial data which would be helpful
for the stakeholders’ planners and designers in decision making. Realizing
this, JNPT has approached and requested Maharashtra Remote Sensing
Application Centre (MRSAC) Nagpur, an autonomous body under Planning
Department, Government of Maharashtra, to generate the Remote Sensing
and GIS database for the agency.
Objective:
The aim and objective of the project are as follows:
1. Creation of Geo-Spatial database of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust
(JNPT) using:
a) High Resolution Satellite data.
b) Maps of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust on 1:5000 scale or larger.
c) City Survey Maps for base map on 1:5000 scale, if any.
2. Design and development the standards for Geo-Spatial database for
JNPT in GIS environment.
3. Scanning, digitization and georeferencing of city cadastral maps and
other maps provided for the study area.
