and Monitoring) Programme.
“Area and Yield Estimation of Some Kharif & Rabi Crops for
Maharashtra State”
Introduction
Programme is envisaged to develop methodology for pre-harvest area estimates of new
crops using multi-source remotely sensed and collateral data. Maharashtra grows
variety of crops in kharif as well as in rabi and summer season and contribute major
area of state acreage figure. Five crops vis. Maize, Soybean, Bajra and Groundnut in
kharif season and Groundnut in rabi season have to analyse.
Objectives:
Major objectives of this project are as follows:
1) To develop methodology for crop area estimation using SAR / Optical data
2) Transfer of technology to MNCFC, New Delhi for operational crop area estimation
3) Training to collaborating agency personnel and MNCFC scientists
Methodology
Optical data: Multi-date LISS III data will be used. Methodology consists of registration
of multi-date data set, radiometric normalization of images, sensor-to-sensor calibration,
resampling of images to common spatial resolution, generation of NDVI images,
development of spectral-temporal profiles, and discrimination of study crop from other
crops and area estimation. The image processing steps will be carried out for group of
districts in the study area.
