GIS Mapping for Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) using High Resolution Satellite Data

    Introduction

Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) an Autonomous Body under Ministry of Shipping Government of India has proposed to create the Large-Scale Database by using a very High-Resolution Satellite Data for an area under its jurisdiction. The study is aimed at generating a geo-spatial data of detailed urban land use/land cover data showing all the details of existing structures on the sites with docks, container yards, roads, jetties, piers, railway tracks, oil pipelines, open spaces, slums, etc. and other site features duly superimposed on city cadastral data of Collector Mumbai. Under this project MbPT intends to generate the geo-spatial data which would be helpful for the stakeholders’ planners and designers in decision making. Realizing this, MbPT has approached and requested Maharashtra Remote Sensing Applications Centre (MRSAC) Nagpur, an autonomous body under Planning Department, Government of Maharashtra, to generate the Remote Sensing and GIS database for the agency.
