    Introduction

Nanded-Waghala City Municipal Corporation (NWCMC) was established on 26 March 1997, by merging Nanded Municipal Council and adjoining Waghala Municipal Council. While forming the Municipal Corporation,13 villages were added to the existing area with CIDCO and HUDCO colonies areas were included in Waghala Municipal Council, to form the Nanded-Waghala City Municipal Corporation (NWCMC).

Nanded City is divided in two parts i.e. Old Nanded north of the Godavari river (on the left bank) and New Nanded comprising Waghala and six other newly merged villages and CIDCO area, south of the Godavari river.

Nanded-Waghala City Municipal Corporation (NWCMC) is a local civic government body with the task of developing new areas within city limits and special unit of Nanded and maintaining existing city infrastructure. With recent development in urban sector in Remote Sensing and GIS fields, NWCMC has proposed to implement complete GIS solution for comprehensive planning for Preparation of Development Plan of Additional area of Municipal Council (Special Unit) for Nanded-Waghala City Municipal Corporation decision making support and to provide accurate information to general public for the areas under its jurisdiction. The study is aimed at generating a geo-spatial data of detailed Existing Land Use (ELU) data showing all the details of existing structures on the sites and other site features duly superimposed on Land Records Department, cadastral data of 13 villages under study.

Under this project, NWCMC intends to generate the geo-spatial data which would be helpful for the stakeholders’ planners and designers in decision making. Realizing this, NWCMC has approached and requested Maharashtra Remote Sensing Application Centre (MRSAC) Nagpur, an autonomous body under Planning Department, Government of Maharashtra, to generate the Remote Sensing and GIS database for the agency.
